Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 Phono Preamplifier (Silver)

The Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 sits at the top of Pro-Ject's valve phono stage range, above the entry-level Tube Box S2. Where the S2 provides a first step into valve-amplified vinyl replay, the DS2 expands on it with dual selectable inputs and outputs, a continuously adjustable MC impedance dial, and a more sophisticated dual-mono circuit layout developed by Dr. Sykora.

Valve Output Stage

At the heart of the Tube Box DS2 are two ECC83 valves, used in the output stage to shape the signal after initial amplification. The dual-mono internal architecture keeps left and right channels physically separated throughout, minimising crosstalk and preserving stereo imaging. The circuit uses ultra-low-noise components with precise RIAA equalisation accurate to within 0.2 dB across the full 20 Hz–20 kHz band.

Cartridge Compatibility

The Tube Box DS2 supports both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges. MM gain is switchable between 40, 45, and 50 dB, while MC gain offers 50, 60, and 65 dB settings. Input capacitance for MM cartridges is adjustable across three positions: 100, 220, and 320 pF. For MC cartridges, the impedance is continuously variable from 10 to 1,000 Ω via a front-panel dial that can be adjusted during playback — allowing fine-tuning by ear without interrupting a listening session.

Dual Inputs and Outputs

Two switchable RCA inputs accommodate a pair of turntables or tonearms, selectable from the front panel. Two pairs of RCA outputs allow connection to separate amplifiers or recording devices simultaneously. All RCA sockets are gold-plated, and the metal casing provides shielding against vibration and electromagnetic interference.

Subsonic Filter

A switchable subsonic filter operates at 20 Hz with a 12 dB/octave slope, attenuating ultra-low-frequency rumble from turntable bearings or warped records without encroaching on audible bass content.
