The Polk Audio HTS 10 sits within Polk’s HTS Series of powered subwoofers, positioned below the larger HTS 12. It is designed to deliver controlled bass for both music and home cinema systems, using a combination of Polk’s proprietary driver technology and a purpose-built Class D amplifier in a compact, internally braced enclosure.
Driver & Amplification
At the heart of the HTS 10 is a long-throw 10-inch Dynamic Balance driver with a polypropylene cone, optimised using Klippel measurement systems for linear excursion across its full operating range. The driver is powered by a 200-watt peak (100-watt continuous) Class D amplifier, chosen for its high-current delivery and energy efficiency. The amplifier is Energy Star compliant, drawing just 0.5 watts in auto-standby mode.
Power Port Bass Reflex
Rather than a conventional rear or downward-firing port, the HTS 10 uses Polk’s patented Power Port technology — a floor-firing bass reflex system that smooths airflow as it exits the enclosure. By reducing turbulence at the port exit, Power Port is designed to extend low-frequency output while minimising audible port noise. Polk states that Power Port-equipped subwoofers produce approximately 3 dB less port noise than conventionally ported designs of comparable size.
Enclosure & Construction
The cabinet is constructed from non-resonant MDF with additional internal bracing and thick baffles to reduce unwanted standing waves and audible colouration. The compact form factor — 42.2 cm tall, 38.4 cm wide, and 40.9 cm deep — is intended to allow discreet placement alongside furniture or within a home cinema setup without dominating the room.
Controls & Connectivity
All controls and connections are located on the rear panel. Audio inputs comprise an LFE input (unfiltered, bypassing the internal crossover) and stereo line-level inputs via a pair of RCA connectors. The rear panel provides adjustable volume, a continuously variable low-pass filter (30–120 Hz), and a two-position phase switch (0°/180°) for alignment with the main speakers. Power management options include auto on/off sensing and a 12V DC trigger input for integration with AV receivers and automation systems.
