The Silver 500 7G is the flagship floorstanding speaker in Monitor Audio’s Silver Series 7G — a range now in its seventh generation, built on decades of driver and cabinet engineering. Sitting above the two-way Silver 200 7G and three-way Silver 300 7G, the Silver 500 7G adds a second 203mm (8”) bass driver for greater low-frequency extension and output, making it the natural choice for larger listening rooms and dedicated home cinema systems.
Driver Technology
All three driver types use Monitor Audio’s proprietary C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone material. The twin 203mm bass drivers and the 76mm (3”) mid-range driver feature Rigid Surface Technology II (RST II) — a dimpled, hexagonal surface pattern pressed into the cone that increases stiffness without adding mass. The result is reduced breakup distortion and improved pistonic behaviour across the operating band, allowing the Silver 500 7G to maintain clarity even at high playback levels.
The 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter is paired with a Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II, which controls the tweeter’s radiation pattern to deliver a wider, more consistent sweet spot. The three-way crossover network hands off at 800 Hz between the bass and mid-range sections, and at 2.7 kHz between mid-range and tweeter, keeping each driver working comfortably within its optimal range.
Cabinet and Bass Loading
The cabinet is rear-ported using Monitor Audio’s HiVe II (High Velocity, low turbulence) port system — a dual-port arrangement tuned to 36 Hz. HiVe II ports use a flared, rifled internal geometry designed to reduce port noise at high excursion levels, maintaining clean bass output at the lowest frequencies. The bass-reflex alignment extends the usable low-frequency response down to 27 Hz (−6 dB in-room).
Sturdy outrigger feet are supplied with a choice of floor-coupling spikes for carpeted rooms or rubber pads for hard floors, providing a stable, low-resonance platform for the 22.5 kg cabinet.
Performance and Positioning
With a sensitivity of 90.5 dB (2.83V at 1m) and a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms (minimum 4.1 Ohms at 150 Hz), the Silver 500 7G is an efficient and easy load for most amplifiers. Monitor Audio recommends amplification in the 80–250 W range. Maximum SPL is rated at 111 dB per speaker in free-field conditions, making the Silver 500 7G capable of filling mid-to-large rooms with authority whether used as a stereo pair or as the front left/right channels in a Dolby Atmos home cinema system built around the wider Silver 7G range.
