KEF Q550 Floorstanding Speakers Satin White (Pair)

The KEF Q550 is the most compact floorstanding speaker in KEF’s Q Series, sitting below the Q750 and Q950 in the range hierarchy. Despite its slim footprint, the Q550 is a 2.5-way bass reflex design that delivers wide bandwidth and full-scale performance well beyond what its dimensions suggest. It is sold as a matched pair.

Uni-Q Driver Array

At the heart of the Q550 is KEF’s signature Uni-Q driver array, which places the tweeter concentrically within the midrange cone. This coaxial arrangement means that high and mid frequencies radiate from a single point source, producing a more uniform dispersion pattern and a wider sweet spot than conventional two-driver layouts. The result is consistent tonal balance across a broad listening area.

Bass Performance

Low-frequency duties are handled by a dedicated 130mm (5.25″) aluminium bass driver, reinforced by two matching auxiliary bass radiators (ABRs). The ABR approach allows the Q550 to extend bass response without the turbulence and port noise associated with conventional reflex ports. The larger roll surround and redesigned spiders on the low-frequency drivers deliver cleaner bass at higher volumes.

Cabinet Design

The Q550’s cabinet is deliberately slim at just 180mm wide, making it unobtrusive in smaller listening rooms or when placed close to walls. A detachable plinth provides stability and allows fine adjustment of speaker positioning. The satin finish is smooth and understated, complementing a range of interiors.

Amplifier Matching

With a sensitivity of 87dB and a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms (minimum 3.5 Ohms), the Q550 is a straightforward load for most integrated amplifiers. KEF recommends amplifier power between 15W and 130W, giving broad compatibility from modest stereo amplifiers through to more powerful integrated or AV receiver setups. Maximum output is rated at 110dB.
