The AudioQuest Pearl USB-A to Micro B 2.0 is the entry point to AudioQuest’s dedicated USB cable range, designed for connecting portable DACs, digital audio players, and other Micro B–equipped devices to a computer or USB source. It sits below the Forest (which upgrades to 0.5% silver conductors) and the Cinnamon (1.25% silver), but shares the same core construction philosophy that runs through the entire AudioQuest digital cable lineup.
Conductor Design
Pearl uses Semi-Solid Concentric Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors. In a conventional multi-strand cable, each strand changes position within the bundle as the cable flexes, creating electrical and magnetic strand-interaction distortion. AudioQuest’s Semi-Solid Concentric geometry locks strands into fixed positions relative to one another, significantly reducing this distortion mechanism. Long-Grain Copper further contributes by having fewer grain boundaries and fewer oxides within the conducting material than standard OFHC copper, resulting in a lower-distortion signal path.
Noise-Dissipation
The cable incorporates AudioQuest’s Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation system. Traditional shielding captures radio-frequency interference and drains it to the component’s ground plane, which can modulate and distort the ground reference. AudioQuest’s approach adds an additional dissipation layer that absorbs and reflects most RF energy before it reaches the ground-connected shield, preventing the captured noise from contaminating the signal reference.
Insulation
Hard-Cell Foam (HCF) insulation maintains stable conductor geometry along the full cable length. The foam is nitrogen-injected to create air pockets within the dielectric — since nitrogen does not absorb or release energy, it minimises dielectric absorption compared to solid insulation materials. The rigidity of the foam also keeps the conductors in a consistent spatial relationship, producing a stable impedance character throughout.
Direction-Controlled Conductors
All drawn metal conductors have a non-symmetrical grain structure, making them inherently directional. AudioQuest tests every batch of conductor material to determine the optimal signal direction, then marks the cable with arrows on the connectors. This directional control forms part of the Noise-Dissipation system, ensuring that induced noise is dissipated away from the signal path rather than towards it.
Build & Connectors
The Pearl USB-A to Micro B terminates with gold-plated connectors at both ends, providing reliable, low-resistance contact surfaces. The 0.75m length keeps the cable short enough to minimise signal degradation while providing practical reach for desktop and portable audio setups.
