Wharfedale Diamond 12.4 Floorstanding Speakers Black (Pair)

The Diamond 12.4 is the flagship floorstanding speaker in Wharfedale's Diamond 12 series, sitting above the compact 12.3 and the bookshelf 12.1 and 12.2. It is the only model in the range to employ a full 2.5-way configuration with dual 165 mm (6.5″) bass/midrange drivers, delivering greater low-frequency extension and higher peak SPL than its smaller siblings.

Driver Technology

Both bass/midrange drivers use Wharfedale’s Klarity cone material — a blend of polypropylene and mica that produces a lightweight cone with high rigidity and low colouration. In the 2.5-way topology, the upper driver handles both bass and midrange duties while the lower driver reinforces the bass frequencies only, rolling off before the midrange. The crossover uses a Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/octave topology with air-core inductors, crossing over to the tweeter at 2.1 kHz.

High frequencies are handled by a 25 mm (1″) woven textile dome tweeter, chosen for its balance of detail retrieval and smooth, fatigue-free treble extension.

Cabinet Construction

The 40.8-litre enclosure uses a multi-layered sandwich construction with Intelligent Spot Bracing to minimise cabinet resonance. A rear-positioned, critically tuned bass port provides controlled low-frequency loading down to a −6 dB point of 35 Hz. Adjustable floor spikes are included for stability and vibration isolation on hard floors.

Connectivity and Placement

Two sets of 5-way angled binding post terminals allow bi-wiring or bi-amping. With a nominal impedance of 8 Ω (4.5 Ω minimum) and a sensitivity of 88 dB (2.83 V/1 m), the Diamond 12.4 is comfortable with amplifiers rated between 30 and 200 W.
