The Diamond 12.0 is the most compact speaker in Wharfedale’s Diamond 12 series, sitting below the Diamond 12.1 bookshelf and Diamond 12.2 standmount in the range. Despite its diminutive footprint, the 12.0 shares the same driver and crossover technology as its larger siblings, making it a versatile choice for small-footprint hi-fi systems or as a high-performance satellite speaker in home theatre configurations.
Klarity Cone Technology
At the heart of the Diamond 12.0 is a 100mm (4”) bass driver using Wharfedale’s Klarity cone technology. The cone is formulated from mica-infused polypropylene with radial ribs for added stiffness, producing a lightweight yet rigid diaphragm with low colouration and fast transient response. The high-power voice coil employs an epoxy/glass fibre bobbin for improved thermal handling.
Tweeter & Crossover
High frequencies are handled by a 25mm woven polyester dome tweeter, delivering open and smoothly extended treble. The crossover network uses a Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/octave topology with air-core inductors, minimising distortion and ensuring a clean handoff between drivers at the 2.7 kHz crossover point.
Cabinet Design
The 4.4-litre enclosure features a multi-layered sandwich construction with internally positioned spot bracing to suppress panel resonances. A rear-mounted bass reflex port is critically tuned to match the cabinet volume and driver characteristics, extending low-frequency output down to 65 Hz (−6 dB) from a remarkably compact enclosure measuring just 264 × 157 × 226 mm.
