KEF Q650c Centre Channel Speaker (Satin Black)

The Q650c is the dedicated centre channel speaker in KEF’s Q Series — the entry point to the brand’s loudspeaker range, positioned below the R Series and the flagship Reference series. Within the Q Series home cinema lineup, the Q650c sits alongside the Q150 and Q350 bookshelf speakers, the Q550 and Q950 floorstanders, and the Q50a Dolby Atmos module, serving as the anchor for dialogue reproduction in a multichannel system.

Uni-Q Driver Array

At the heart of the Q650c is KEF’s signature Uni-Q driver — a 25 mm vented aluminium dome tweeter mounted concentrically at the acoustic centre of a 165 mm aluminium mid/bass cone. By placing the tweeter at the throat of the larger driver, both operate as a single point source, dispersing sound evenly throughout the listening area. This is particularly beneficial in a centre channel application where multiple seating positions need consistent dialogue clarity. The Uni-Q array in the Q Series incorporates a damped tweeter loading tube that reduces high-frequency distortion, and the “tangerine” waveguide around the dome helps integrate the treble smoothly with the midrange output of the surrounding cone.

Bass Configuration

The Uni-Q driver is flanked by a pair of 165 mm aluminium bass drivers, making this a 2.5-way design. A separate 165 mm auxiliary bass radiator (ABR) on the rear of the cabinet captures internal energy that would otherwise be lost, converting it into extended low-frequency output. The ABR approach avoids the port noise and placement sensitivity associated with reflex-loaded cabinets while still reinforcing bass extension down to 64 Hz. Each aluminium cone uses a Z-Flex surround to maintain linear excursion and minimise distortion at higher output levels.

Cabinet & Design

The Q650c cabinet measures 212 × 631 × 304 mm and weighs 13.64 kg. It is a substantial centre channel — at 631 mm wide, it is designed to sit comfortably below a screen on a dedicated shelf or AV credenza. The cabinet features hidden fixings and no visible grille plugs, giving it a clean, minimalist appearance. Four self-adhesive rubber feet are included for placement on flat surfaces. A single pair of binding post terminals on the rear panel provides the connection point.
