The Opticon LCR MK2 sits within DALI’s Opticon MK2 range — a series that bridges the gap between the entry-level Oberon family and the high-end Rubicon line. Designed as a versatile on-wall speaker, the LCR MK2 can serve as a left, centre or right channel in a stereo or multichannel surround system, delivering genuine hi-fi performance from a low-profile enclosure that mounts flush against the wall.

Hybrid Tweeter Module

At the heart of the Opticon LCR MK2’s high-frequency reproduction is DALI’s hybrid tweeter module, mounted on a cast aluminium faceplate. This combines a 29 mm soft dome driver with a custom 17 × 45 mm planar element. The dome tweeter provides clarity, speed and dynamics through the upper midrange and lower treble, while the planar driver extends the response to 30 kHz with smooth finesse and fine spatial detail. Together they produce a wide, even dispersion pattern that suits the LCR’s role as a versatile multi-position speaker.

Wood Fibre Bass Driver

The 6.5-inch bass driver uses a cone made from a blend of paper pulp and wood fibre. This material combination is engineered to minimise break-up resonance while maintaining low loss, low distortion and low colouration — core design principles that run through every DALI speaker. The driver is loaded by a front-facing bass reflex port, allowing the LCR MK2 to be positioned close to or directly on a wall without compromising low-frequency performance.

SMC Magnet Motor System

The bass driver’s motor system employs DALI’s patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) technology. A conventional ferrite ring magnet surrounds a pole piece manufactured from the SMC material, which significantly reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents in the magnet system. The practical result is diminished third-order distortion, contributing to a cleaner, more relaxed presentation during extended listening.

Cabinet Construction

The enclosure features a 25 mm thick front baffle with internal bracing to eliminate panel resonance and colouration. The 2.5-way crossover network transitions at 2,800 Hz and 14,000 Hz, carefully integrating the wood fibre woofer with both elements of the hybrid tweeter. Every Opticon LCR MK2 is hand-assembled and individually tested at DALI’s production facilities in Denmark.
