The AudioQuest FLX-Mini Splitter sits within AudioQuest's FLX range of adaptors and splitters — short, flexible cables designed to bridge format gaps without compromising signal quality. Where a generic Y-splitter typically uses thin stranded copper, the FLX-Mini uses solid PSC+ (Perfect-Surface Copper+) conductors, the same grade found in AudioQuest's mid-range interconnect cables.
Construction
PSC+ conductors have a smoother surface than conventional drawn copper, which minimises the distortion caused by grain boundaries within the metal. The solid-core construction eliminates strand interaction — a source of distortion in stranded designs that AudioQuest identifies as a major contributor to signal degradation. Connectors are gold-plated for corrosion resistance and reliable long-term contact.
Practical Use
The splitter takes a single male 3.5 mm stereo plug and provides two female 3.5 mm sockets, allowing two headphones or two line-level devices to share the same output simultaneously. At 15 cm, the cable is short enough to sit neatly behind a headphone amplifier, laptop, or portable player without adding unnecessary length to the signal path.
Also in the FLX Range
AudioQuest offers a companion adaptor, the FLX-Mini/RCA, which converts a 3.5 mm mini jack to two female RCA sockets — useful for connecting a portable source to a hi-fi amplifier. Both models share the same PSC+ conductor technology.
