The Audiolab 8300XP sits within the 8300 Series, Audiolab's mid-range reference line-up of separates. As a dedicated stereo power amplifier, it is designed to partner the 8300A integrated amplifier (used as a pre-amp) or the 8300CDQ CD player/DAC/pre-amplifier, delivering 140W per channel into 8 ohms with the headroom to drive demanding loudspeaker loads with authority.
Circuit Design & Construction
The 8300XP employs a Class A/B topology, combining the low-distortion characteristics of Class A bias in the initial gain stages with the efficiency of Class B for high-current output. A large toroidal transformer provides clean, stable power to the amplification stages, contributing to the low noise floor and dynamic capability of the design.
Internal signal and power wiring is constructed from ultra-pure OCC (Ohno Continuous Cast) copper to minimise distortion and maximise sonic clarity. Total harmonic distortion measures just 0.004% at 20W, with intermodulation distortion equally low at 0.004%.
Power & Flexibility
In stereo mode, the 8300XP delivers 140W RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 230W RMS per channel into 4 ohms, both at less than 1% THD. For applications requiring greater power, the amplifier can be bridged for mono operation, producing 480W RMS into 8 ohms from a single chassis. Two 8300XPs can be paired as monoblocks for a fully balanced, high-power system.
The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 113dB (A-weighted), and the damping factor of 160 ensures tight, controlled bass performance even with complex loudspeaker loads. Frequency response extends from 20Hz to 80kHz (-3dB), with a tightly controlled ±1dB window between 20Hz and 30kHz.
Connectivity
The rear panel provides both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs, allowing the 8300XP to be connected to any pre-amplifier or source component with a fixed or variable output. Bi-wire speaker terminals accommodate single or bi-wired loudspeaker connections. Two 12V trigger inputs enable automatic power-on when paired with compatible Audiolab components or third-party control systems.
