The Q Acoustics 5050 is the flagship floorstanding speaker in the 5000 series, sitting above the 5040 and designed for larger listening spaces where full-range sound reproduction and scale are priorities. It shares the core engineering of the 5000 series — C³ Continuous Curved Cone drivers, P2P bracing, HPE technology, and a hermetically sealed floating tweeter — but extends the formula with a larger cabinet and bigger drivers to deliver deeper bass extension and greater dynamic headroom.
Driver Technology
The 5050 uses twin 150mm (6.0”) mid/bass drivers, each featuring Q Acoustics’ C³ (Continuous Curved Cone) profile. This cone geometry blends the advantages of traditional straight conic and flared designs, achieving excellent dispersion alongside a well-controlled frequency response and reduced harmonic distortion. The result is seamless integration with the tweeter and tighter low-end control with superior deep bass dynamics.
The increased cone area and substantial magnets paired with large voice coils deliver a 50% increase in power handling compared to standard 25.4mm drivers, improving dynamic range particularly in bass regions.
High-Frequency Driver
The 25mm (1.0”) treble driver draws on technology developed for the Concept series. It is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle in a floating mount, preventing internal pressure modulations caused by cabinet and adjacent driver activity from reaching the tweeter diaphragm. Inner chamber venting reduces distortion while allowing a lower crossover point of 2.7kHz.
Cabinet Construction
P2P (Point-to-Point) internal bracing stiffens the cabinet to minimise lower frequency vibrations, focusing stereo imaging and improving soundstage. The 5050’s taller enclosure benefits particularly from HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) technology: four internal tubes convert pressure to velocity, reducing cabinet resonance — especially single-frequency standing waves that taller loudspeakers are prone to.
The cabinet is finished with butyl rubber and black acrylic baffle trim, available in Satin Black, Satin White, Holme Oak, and Santos Rosewood.
Performance
With a 39.7-litre cabinet volume and bass extension down to 37Hz (−6dB), the 5050 delivers the scale and authority needed for both music and cinema applications. Sensitivity of 91.8dB/W/m at 2.83V and a nominal impedance of 6Ω make the speakers a comfortable load for amplifiers rated between 25W and 150W.
